About Me.
First and foremost, I am a lover of words. Whimsically, I believe in the magic of a well-turned phrase. Pragmatically, I believe in the persuasive power of clear, coherent, and concise prose. The best writing can be both stylish and lucid, simple without being simplistic.
I attribute this both/and mindset to my doctoral training in 20th century literary modernism, rhetoric and composition, and feminist theory.
As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Teaching of Writing at the University of Delaware and Graduate Teaching Assistant at The Pennsylvania State University, I spent 10 years teaching courses in rhetoric and composition, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and English Literature.
During this time, I was also a freelance editor. Through this work, I discovered developmental editing and writing coaching were: 1) my passion; and 2) a career! In early 2025, I made the transition into full-time editorial and consulting work. Currently, I am the Assistant Director for Faculty Writing Initiatives at Villanova University’s Institute for Research and Scholarship (VIRS).
My Approach.
Collaboration and Process
I envision editing as a series of conversations between you (the author) and me (the editor) that involve exchange, questions, and learning from both sides. As I learn more about your personality and gain a stronger understanding of your research questions and purpose, I can better refine your argument and your prose. My comments and feedback are curated to sharpen your thesis, create an organized structure around the major through lines of your project, and care for your audience.
My approach to editing writing is similar to the one I adopted in my classroom and in my own research: a collaborative, process-based effort to foreground an author’s argument and strengthen their voice across genres. Paying close attention to a text’s exigence and rhetorical situation, I offer detailed feedback on argument, appeals to audience, organization, and flow, as well as more basic line editing.
